The Standardised Price List (SPL) is designed to provide a basic, standardised comparison of funeral costs across different providers. However, it does not reflect the full scope of services, flexibility, or personalisation that an independent funeral director may offer.

In cases where additional requirements arise such as the need for a larger coffin, specialist transport, or extra staff to manage a funeral for a very large person the SPL does not account for these bespoke elements. Independent funeral directors often provide a more tailored service, ensuring that every aspect of the funeral meets the family wishes and logistical needs. This level of personalisation and the additional resources required naturally result in higher costs compared to the standardised offerings listed in the SPL.

Simply put, the SPL represents a basic framework for price transparency, whereas an independent funeral director pricing reflects the actual service costs based on individual circumstances. Therefore, the two are not directly comparable when assessing the true cost of a specific funeral.
